I read out of order but still loved it! I really enjoyed this book. Love Slate what can I say, I am a sucker for the good looking alphas.

I really enjoyed this one!
It was full of twists and turns, and different from my usual reads.
Sexy, romantic and sweet, despite the harsh surroundings and the characters actions.

** spoiler alert ** Although I tend to have issues in books where spouses cheat on their spouses (deserved or not), the synopsis of the Diamond Girl interested me enough to start reading. It also didn't hurt that it was loosely based on actual events. That in itself intrigued me.

However, it's a rare thing, but I honestly disliked all the main characters in this book. Suffice to say that Jack, Sammie's husband is a jerk. He'd have to be for Sammie to not feel any guilt about getting involved with Slate. The history of Jack basically raping Sammie when she was 16 was pretty disgusting. Enough said about the husband.

Then there's Sammie. Ugh! From what family history I was able to piece together, it seemed like she was raised in a family where the father was definitely the head of the household and she and her mother were always to follow his lead. Based on that, maybe, it's understandable why she was the way she was, but it doesn't mean that I had to like it.

First, Sammie doesn't even recognize that she was raped. She did say No, but according to her

I wasn't even certain he was aware of what had transpired. I couldn't blame him for something he'd done while under the influence.

How clueless is this girl. She just shrugged it off as if it wasn't a big deal. There was almost something robotic in the way she handled what happened. No real feelings. Anyway, as a result, Sammie got pregnant and was forced to marry Jack. 19 years later, it's pretty clear that Sammie is not in a happy marriage and at the point.

Even through her marriage, it seemed that she went through the motions. She literally gave her life up to Jack where the expectation was to make sure he had his needs met at all times. If things weren't going well or Jack was unhappy, it was Sammie's role to fix it. The sad thing is that she always seemed to accept the blame even when it was undeserved.

When she does try to break out her rut, it's initially so that she could get back in shape so that Jack would be attracted to her again instead of supposedly banging his personal assistant (which Sammie, by the way, had an almost "whatever" kind of reaction).

Somehow this getting back in shape somehow leads her to being a pole dancer. Honestly, this was a suspension of disbelief. Why would a woman from a fairly well-off background suddenly want to be a pole dancer going by the stage name of Diamond. That came out of nowhere. I could understand if there was mention in her past history of Sammie wanting to rebel, wanting to do something so drastic, but it just wasn't evident. Instead it seemed like she just fell into it.

But I guess if you're going from being a housewife to a pole dancer, embrace the wildness, embrace the freedom of showing off your body. Feel something. But to Sammie, it seemed all rote, with one of the perks being how much money you can make.

The other perk was "being owned" by Slate, a biker who she meets at the club where she worked as a dancer. Slate knows her as Sunny and doesn't have a clue about who she really is. The whole process of how that happened didn't make much sense, but in the end, what it meant to a certain extent is that Slate had dominion over Sammie. When he wanted sex, he'd text her and she'd be accommodating. Not that she minded.

With her husband never have given her an orgasm during their 19 years of marriage, she was more than happy to let Slate call the shots because it was a way for her to "feel" plus the mind-blowing sex didn't hurt either. However, even if with sex that is off the charts, Sammie is again letting a man dictate a part of her life.

What's even more ridiculous? Sammie starts to develop feelings for Slate. Huh? She even tells him that she loves him, which he rejects. Considering that his texts to her were basically for her to come over so that they can f*ck, how can real love come from that? Considering that he dictated everything from what she's supposed to wear to how she's suppose to interact with her husband and even that he would be the one to decide when it's over, I'd be crushing all over him, too.

There is one point when she recognizes that Slate can never offer her anything but sex and decides to cut contact with him. Yet, once he finds her, it doesn't take much for her to fall back in his arms.

Speaking of Slate, who apparently is an undercover FBI agent, I didn't care for him at all. Treating Sammie as his personal sex toy certainly didn't endear him to me, even if she was a willing participant.

Reading about his frequent blow jobs with another pole dancer, Garnet, after Sammie cut all contact, wasn't that appealing either. Granted there were no promises of commitment on either side at the time, but the whole thing just felt dirty and not in a good way.

Then of course, there's also the story involving outlaw bikers, illegal pharmaceutical drugs, fake car insurance claims, with her husband in the midst of all that. There's also Slate aka Eric, who was undercover first as Slate, the outlaw biker. Then he also went undercover to befriend Sammie's daughter to get info on her father's illegal activities.

After Sammie met Erik posing as Sammie's "friend", they picked things up just like that. She even forgave him regarding Garnet, because apparently, it was just a release for him and nothing to do with her. Plus she was also just an informant. That may be true, but damn, what woman wants to hear that?

In the end, arrests are made, secrets come out, admissions of love are revealed, a baby is on the way and marriage follows soon after. Happily ever after ensues, but honestly, by that time, I was just glad the book was over. It's just too hard to enjoy a book where the heroine seemed too easily manipulated by the men in her life and the men were basically just jerks.
I liked it. One of the things I really loved was that the female was so close in age to me. I don’t see a lot of those as I tend to gravitate towards NA and YA books. But I could identify with a lot of what she as feeling. Her life was predictable, no change, no surprises and she wanted to shake it up a bit.

I was NOT prepared for the amount of violence in this book. Nor was I prepared for all the twists and turns. I can’t really go into them but suffice to say that it was not predictable, at least for me. I figured this book to be a biker club romance, complete with cliches and tropes that go along with this type of story. But it had more depth than that. And the plot was solid. Most biker books I read have simple, easy to understand plots. This one was developed and strong. And I think I could have really enjoyed the book if there was no sex in it. Which says something since I’m a huge romance fan.

Her husband (thats right kiddies, shes is married), I think his name was Jack, is the ultimate bad guy, I mean, I really had some physical hate brewing inside me for him. His actions and lack of remorse were beyond shameful and I’m clearly still upset about the things his character did. And while I don’t condone cheating, in this case, I’m glad she moved on to greener pastures.

Sammie was awesome. She transformed in this book, from frumpy housewife to sex magnet. Her confidence soared and I loved how she took control of her life when things seemed to be so out of it for her. I really dug Slate’s character. He seemed to be an alpha type but he was respectable like. He walked the line, if that makes sense. It’s all kinda hard for me to explain. I’ve seen some really bad reviews for this book and while I can see the flaws they point out, those seem to be the very reasons I liked it. Ah, well, to each their own. Sometimes a book is enjoyable without having to dissect it. And that’s how I felt about this one.

I’ve had this book for over two years and I’m just now getting to it. I’m glad I finally did.
